It’s time for all of us to ask our elected officials to take specific actions that will help all kids in Delaware get the great education they deserve.
Research has shown what works for every student to graduate from high school fully prepared to succeed in college, get a good job, and be a productive citizen. And there is widespread agreement in Delaware about what needs to be done. A broad-based group of leaders and citizens created a well-researched plan, Vision 2015, in 2006 and started the Vision Network (6 districts and 21 schools that are implementing its principles) in 2007. In 2008, the Governor’s LEAD Committee showed how to cut up to $158 million in annual waste in education spending and invest those taxpayers’ dollars into programs that work better for students.
What we haven’t seen is the level of action needed to make these recommendations happen. Elected officials in Dover and in local communities throughout the state must take bolder steps and move forcefully away from the status quo. Now is the time for Delawareans to join together to remind our leaders that it’s all about the kids. They need our help now… not next year, not after the next election, but today, in 2009.
To do this, we will:
Education Voters of Delaware is an independent voice for change, representing—first and foremost—the interests and needs of Delaware’s students. It’s all about the kids.
Every other group has advocates for policies that serve their interests: teachers, principals, superintendents, the business community, and parents. But no single organization has the classroom interests of students as its main goal. That is, until now.
